Because sometimes it’s 5 am and you’re hungry and in a weird mood and you just want to shake someone by the shoulders and go, YOU KNOW “YOU ARE DAVE STRIDER,” DON’T YOU? RIGHT? RIGHT? HOW COULD YOU NOT? even though you don’t even really like ”You Are Dave Strider” and you never did.

Thus. Some things from the days where act 5.2 was still young and everything seemed like a revelation:

• four titles, by liquidCitrus; no-Reckoning AU and heavily Jossed even with that caveat, but you go for the thoughtful worldbuilding, measured pacing, and intriguing peek into what might have been. I don’t wish Homestuck was this story, but I’d eat it up if it were.
• And Justice for All, by a_mere_trifle; okay I rec this once every three months, but this is seriously one of the top 10 most important Terezi fics ever. Top 5, even! It’s just a really fucking influential fic that’s not gotten a lot of attention in its own right, which I think is a shame, not to mention even on its own it says so many important things about Dave and Terezi.
• Show the Lights, by partingxshot; Rose Lalonde dogged by demons both grimdark and Sapphic. Did you know that the other day I saw someone talking about definitive Rose/Kanaya fics and this wasn’t one of them? I have not kept up with the Homestuck fic scene for over a year, but I still feel very comfortable asserting that no one does Rose/Kanaya like Sarah.
• the sand and the seashells, by alanahikarichan; John/Karkat human romance, and I’ll understand if you find the quadrants-dismissal squicky, but this is more classic Johnkat than a lot of the big Johnkat classics, really.
• Chess Rules, by yubishines; no, this hasn’t even been rendered a tiny bit superfluous by [S] Cascade and I will not hear a word to the contrary.

OF COURSE I’VE READ ALMOST NO ONE MAKES IT OUT, which is one of the best fics ever of all time in any fandom for bystanders, but I haven’t read Concession. Snagged!

As I take an exhausted break from Counterfeit Monkey, muttering “MASKING NOISE??” frantically to myself, I come to you bearing twenty-six Ladystuck recs. As usual, the collection is full of stars, and this is a tiny portion of it, mostly art, and I’m hoping to make more posts when I’ve read stuff with higher wordcounts.

PS I wrote four Ladystuck fics this year. One of them is something that I’m pretty sure only I could’ve written, and if that wasn’t the case, I covered it with incredibly obvious, self-indulgent markers of how much fun I was having writing it, so if you guess that one your prize is only my affection. For everyone who guesses one of the other three, I’ll write you a drabble, and if you guess ALL of the fics, I will write you a full treat! At some point. Probably in 2014.

Fifty Years In The Virtuous City

In the capital, where our Queen lives, there are two universities.

Though technically a fanfic, this story is a transformative work in the purest and best sense. It takes the misty, naive wandering of Sultana’s Dream and unflinchingly nails the whole scenario down into a world you can believe in, a city you can almost visit, a group of women you think you could get to know, and then it kicks you over and over again in the heart. It’s a story about a couple of lady scientists in a nation of lady scientists and it’s just completely great, go read it.  

Yay, yay, yay!! This should get recced more often. I love the original story, and this fic is fucking brilliant.

The Carnival Princess, Equius♥Feferi, contains cannibalism. The creepy one, carny AU where Feferi gets hungry sometimes and Equius helps her out.

blood an silk, Eridan♦Rose. Eridan might be dead but it’s okay because he has the best moirail ever. Contains some medical ickiness.

Psiioniic: escape. Psi/Suffs faintly sci-fi flavored escapist what-if where I just want them to live and for it not to be horrible okay.

….So yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing this week. mmmmore to come?

This is a wonderful fic. One of the only Sherlock fics I’ve ever loved. :)

HEY SO I TRUST YOUR TASTE IN THINGS, care to share what other fics have made it on your list? 

HAHA, SO, FAIR WARNING, I only sort of watch Sherlock or care about it, so there are only two and they’re… about as canonical as the Anatomist. But I love them.

1. Pendrecarc’s Suite For Strings and Steel, which is a genderswap AU and it’s case fic and it’s so! GOOD! I love it as a pure Holmes adaptation (The Cardinale is a fucking genius version of The Beryl Coronet and Dr. Ginzberg is a fabulous use of some of the good parts from the Laurie R. King books) and I love it as a Sherlock adaptation because Sherlock seems really human? It’s rare for me to read a Sherlock fic and be like, “Oh! I get why John and Lestrade and to some extent Mycroft would have affection for him.” Which is one reason I’m not in the fandom, I guess! But I totally get it here, without feeling that she’s been unrecognizably softened.

2. codalion’s And No More Shall We Part, which is Sebastian Moran/Jim Moriarty. Why yes, Sebastian Moran does not actually exist in Sherlock! Why yes, I am actively stalking the mormor tag. (Why yes, I strongly regret getting involved in a Tumblr fandom where I have to use the namesmush for a pairing with the worst namesmush of all time.) There’s a lot of Seb/Jim where Jim doesn’t actually die or it’s set before he does die and this one is … set after. And Jim is dead. And it just eats me up inside. It’s this brutal little portrayal of grief that tears my heart up but does not forgive Jim for being a psychotic murderer.

IF I REMEMBER ANY MORE I WILL LET YOU KNOW. I think there was a kittens AU I really enjoyed, I may have to go and find it.

I would describe this as “lots of fandoms” under the cut but the ones most likely to be relevant to my dash’s interest are Echo Bazaar, Nicki Minaj RPF, Baccano!, and Batman Beyond/Blue Beetle. Also my amazing gifts!
