emberkeelty asked: So what are your thoughts about the Les Mis movie though?

    I .. .. .. .

    1) I loved it

    2) it was terrible.

I cried! I laughed! i wanted to dance on a barricade! I thought Anne Hathaway was a fucking fantastic actress and I don’t care how many other people also hold that opinion WOW! I don’t even care that she had sex in a coffin DID YOU NOTICE THAT THEY’RE MAKING LOVE TO ONE ALREADY DEAD!!! But idk, I love the musical for being ridiculous and huge and ambitious and beautiful and repetitive and scenery-chewing, and I love the book for being heartbreaking and serious and angry and honest and huge and ridiculous and ambitious, and you have to work with the Venn diagram and not against it, and the movie was LONG, but it didn’t feel huge, ambitious, or even ridiculous, it felt like it really hoped it was serious. It was not serious. People were singing. Extreme close ups do not make it less ridiculous, they make it more. Also the movie implied that the problems of the revolution were solved due to Christianity. Neither the musical nor the book implies that! So disappointing. Also, my friend who saw it with me came away with the impression that Javert was the villain which :/ Javert isn’t the villain :/ societal oppression is the villain :/ the movie is kind of shallow about critique, they cut a lot of the most bitter stuff to put in Babies Are The Best Thing Ever.

But as a source for visuals for this thing that I’ve loved since high school then it was perfect, I want no other. I would pay to watch it again. I was riveted.
