EXACTLY!!! It wasn’t even close, and he was going on about how he just “plays hard”, etc, and you know what? If you want to play hard, play some god damned defense at any point at your life, don’t try to end a dude’s career to stop a double play. And Scutaro, please note, almost made the double play anyway.*
To be strictly fair, we did something very similar in 1988 that started a brawl and cemented our semirivalry with the Cards in the first place, one that was so bad that when we beat ‘em in the 2002 NLCS the call was “Kenny Lofton, the man they love to hate in St. Louis, has driven a stake through the heart of the Cardinals”, but— man— even then, even with Will Clark and in a time of much harder play, that was at least a RECOGNIZABLE FUCKING SLIDE, as opposed to a TACKLE.
