1. odditycollector asked: You know what would be terrible? If the kids and trolls were an actual pantheon of gods over some hapless universe. For many reasons, I am sure, but one is that there are too many tricksters amongst them. Like, there are the Scourge Sisters. Vriska is obviously the louder sort of Loki/Coyote myth, self aggrandizing and "helpful" and ending quite often in a less than awesome predicament herself. Brought down most often by Terezi, no doubt, who is a different sort of trickster god, more personal.

She’ll set things up to let you trick *yourself* into your downfall. I wonder if in some myths they aren’t seen as a single duology, the god who stole the reincarnation of the sun and the one who sees nothing but darkness, two sides of the same coin. And then there is John, who is not really a trickster so much as a prankster god, the sort who will turn the island your city’s built on into a giant sea turtle and then laugh to himself. 2

3 Vriska and Terezi get the myths with moral lessons embedded in them, John’s are more geared towards answering such mysteries as WTF is up with the winged platapus? Srsly, they give birth in air and the underdeveloped fetuses drift down on biological parachutes? EVOLUTION U R DRUNK. And then there is *Gamzee*, who ah. Has his own sense of humour, and who works from the inside out. There aren’t. A whole lot. Of useful aesops. In Gamzee stories.
Yes! This is some of what I was going for in the Gardener, Counselor, and the Sylph universe (though in that one the non-god-tier trolls were culture heroes instead of gods. Also I killed off Vriska.) But seriously, any universe relying on the sacred guidance of this group of kids will put a very high premium on the untrustworthiness of heaven. Probably a pretty amoral culture tbh. “Love your friends. Fuck authority! You get style points for murders.”
Terezi the trickster god versus Vriska the trickster god is one of my favorite things to play with. Comic if destructive foolery vs. justice through pratfalls is such a subtle and interesting point.
