this is cute and all but can we as a community seriously stop just reworking/redrawing someone else’s comics into homestuck? especially if you are not going to link or credit at all…. i mean, come on. tumblr has enough problems with these things. at least acknowledge the person whose work you’re reproducing

Okay first, i love this comic

second, I don’t really think that is Kate beatan’s style…at all, its not. Unless you can me the original drawing, I don’t believe it was redrawn. (becouse it’s obviously not beaton’s!!)

magnolia is SPOT ON here.  i will admit that some of the homestuck’d kate beaton comics are cute and funny, and people do often source them.  but it’s often done without source, link, etc, and that is not cool.

kate beaton is an amazing artist and a fantastically expressive storyteller—it’s understandable to want to learn from her, and imitation is a valuable learning tool.  taking her comics wholesale, especially unsourced: not the same thing at all.

i’m not saying all the homestuck’d comics are disrespectful or anything, but they’re not really innovative, and there’s a steadily growing trend of not acknowledging the comics’ original creator.

c’mon, homestuck fans, you guys are bursting with creativity.  you don’t need to rip from someone else! :(

this kind of thing isnt about ripping kate beaton off?? i mean, like, it’s not that funny on its own without context

it’s funny because you know the original comic? the joke isn’t “roxy doesnt know frigglish is going to die” the joke is “i have put rose and roxy into the situation depicted in the original comic because I find the comparison entertaining”

so yeah definitely link to the original, so that a) people dont think you are claiming this as your own thing b) more people can actually get the joke

idk crossover jokes obviously arent going to be innovative most of the time but that doesnt mean its never … funny … to be like “this situation in one thing i like can be compared to a situation in another thing i like”
